Popped Passion was founded in November of 2018, and for those who don't know, it started partly because of me and my brother. I was serving in Cameroon, Africa as a Peace Corps volunteer and my brother was serving in the Army overseas. Needless to say, my mom REALLY needed a distraction from the stress and nervousness that comes from having children on different sides of the world working in extremely difficult environments. Thus, a kernel was popped, and this business became my mom's small side hustle/passion project. Since then, it's grown beyond what she could have imagined.

It's crazy to think that this began when I was far away in Cameroon, and now I run the day to day activities of this company. I remember my mom coming to visit me in April 2018, buying popcorn from every vendor on the street and sharing her ideas of what her future popcorn business would look like. While I supported her in pursuing her passion, I never thought I would be taking such an active role in it. I had always imagined myself working for the CDC or the WHO, but now I'm fulfilling my dream of being an entrepreneur, while also helping my mom fulfill her passion of popcorn!

Working here started as just a part-time position. I was helping my mom get her Good Morning America orders out while applying to public health jobs. My mom had talked to me about working with her, and I spent about 2 months mulling it over. I wasn't 100% sure that this was what I wanted to do, but if Peace Corps taught me anything, it's that I should always be open to opportunities. So I ran with it. I jumped head-first into this small business. And, lack of experience aside, I like to think I'm becoming pretty good at it. Just like I did in Peace Corps, I get to wear multiple hats every single day. I get to be a chef, graphic designer, social media manager, content creator, customer service agent, writer, book keeper, and delivery girl all in the span of 1 day. Every single day is different and exciting and I'm learning so much. And to top it off, I get to work with my mom while still making the world a happier and better place to be!

Cheers to popcorn, happiness and chasing our dreams,

-Madison
